Book Review: The ACB with Honora Lee

Author: Kate De Goldi

Illustrator: Gregory O'Brien

Genre: Children Lit

Published: 2012

Pages: 124

Age Group: 10+

Rating: 5/5

The ACB with Honora Lee is a heartwarming and surprising happy tale, considering it deals with grandmothers. Fashioned in the likeness of more of a short story, it follows a young girl, Perry, who begins visiting her Grandmother in the Santa Lucia nursing home. After getting to know her 'Gran' personally (up until now, she never was allowed to get to know her), Perry begins to see how mixed up she is. Gran confusing Perry for a student of her former primer school, or doesn't recognize her at all and often will rattle off poetry instead of a reply. However, Perry sees past this and begins a project, an alphabet book filled with objects, people, and the feelings of Santa Lucia.

My Persoanl Opinion:
I absolutely loved The ACB. Its written for a younger age group then what I would normally read, but it indeed a darling and slice-of-life story. The characters are quirky and well-developed, the illustrations gorgeous, the writing suburb.
